Under the government-lite model, municipalities contract out the bulk of municipal services. This allows service levels to be locally managed while avoiding the duplication of services. Fire, EMS, and law enforcement would be contracted directly with existing service providers through the county.
Based on the needs identified so far, the focus would be on fixing traffic and road maintenance issues, zoning and planning, code enforcement, beautification, and working to ensure parks and beaches are adequately maintained. Many other benefits flow out of those core services. Local planning would happen through the town’s 20-year comprehensive plan. Other benefits, like a seat and vote on transportation planning organizations, give us a voice and authority over traffic and road issues.
