By incorporating Perdido as a municipality, we could directly address local concerns and build value in our community while having a local voice, a local choice, and a seat at the table. We could return a large portion of existing tax revenue to Perdido and control our own destiny.
Early on in the process, local citizens identified several issues and expressed that could be resolved through mun these to our local delegation. As a municipality, we could:
- Ensure that zoning and planning align with our local way of life
- Improve street conditions for local neighborhoods, along with traffic flow
- Through planning, we can increase pedestrian safety with sidewalks, crosswalks, multi-use paths, and street lighting
- Increase or rebalance law enforcement patrols as needed
- Establish uniform code enforcement to protect property values and beautify our community
- Create and implement a comprehensive stormwater management plan to protect our wetlands and homes
- Citizens could benefit from a community recreation center
While each of these might be addressed separately by our county, the county would make all the decisions, and residents would need to trust that they’ll follow through and carry out our community’s wishes. By forming a town, we can keep local issues local and control our own destiny.
It should be noted that services are never free. If citizens wish to have increased service levels or add more services, it is logical that there are increased costs.
